AN AGREEMENT FOR THE LARGEST RAILWAY PROJECT SIGNED

On 7th January, at Podłęże Railway Station (Małopolskie Voivodeship), the Consortium consisting of MGGP S.A., EgisRail SA and Egis Poland Sp. z o.o. signed a contract with PKP PLK S.A. for the development of design documentation, documentation necessary for the acquisition of lands, tender documentation as well as performance of design supervision under the investment project entitled Construction of a new railway line Podłęże – Szczyrzyc – Tymbark / Mszana Dolna and modernisation of the existing railway line no. 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz – Stage I: preparatory works.
This contract was signed in the presence of representatives of the central and local governments, among others: the Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, the Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Piotr Naimski, the Voivode of Małopolska Piotr Ćwik, the Marshal of Małopolskie Voicodeship Witold Kozłowski, the Vice-Marshal of Małopolskie Voicodeship Łukasz Smółka as well as representatives of the investor and the consortium performing the contract.
 
The Minister of Infrastructure emphasised that “the newly designed line will be the longest new railway line in Poland over the last several dozen years”, on the other hand, the President of the Management Board of PLK, Ireneusz Merchel, said that “the today’s contract for the development of design documentation is the largest one in Polish history in terms of scope”.

The new route will require the construction of 58.47 km of railway lines, 11 tunnels, 8 flyovers, 20 bridges and over 30 viaducts. However, the modernization of the existing line No. 104 on the Tymbark - Nowy Sącz section will cover 74.5 km of railway lines, as well as the construction / alteration of numerous engineering structures.

This investment project will generate benefits both for Poland through, among others, the improvement of connections between various regions in Małopolska as well as comfort and travelling time for passengers and will positively affect international transport between southern and northern Europe along the axis from the Baltic Sea through the Balkans to the Black Sea and will reduce heavy traffic on roads in Upper Silesia.

The task entitled: “Construction of a new railway line Podłęże – Szczyrzyc – Tymbark / Mszana Dolna and modernisation of the existing railway line no. 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz – Stage I: preparatory works” will be implemented between 2018 and 2021. Stages II and III will be implemented in 2020-24 and 2020-27 respectively.

We commence the implementation this new and large-scale railway project with a belief that it meets the ambitions of MGGP and its Team.
