In August 2013, the XV BARI Expedition was organized by six students from the Dahlta Geodesists' Scientific Circle at the Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering of AGH University of Science and Technology. MGGP S.A. was a partner of the expedition.
The expedition was a project inspired by the work carried out by students of the Dahlta Geodesists' Scientific Circle (Koło Naukowe Geodetów Dahlta) in the 1970s, 1980s, and in the year 2001. Over the course of fourteen BARI Expeditions, AGH students conducted high-quality geodetic and architectural documentation of significant historical sites. These projects took place in various countries including Morocco, Syria, Libya, Spain, and Norway.
The goal of the XV BARI Expedition was Portugal, specifically the Pena Palace in Sintra. This palace is a hallmark of the country, often referred to as "one of the seven wonders of Portugal." Its unique character is underscored by its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995. The students' task was to create architectural documentation of the oldest part of the palace, which served the renovation works of the site.
The expedition lasted approximately one month, during which students traveled by minibus and visited numerous European cities. This provided them with the opportunity to explore international geodetic enterprises and establish connections with universities specializing in surveying.
The XV BARI Expedition was under the honorary patronage of AGH University of Science and Technology's Rector, Professor Tadeusz Słomka.
